Loving my hair!!, but I need your help

Hey Ladies just wanted to post some shots of my hair! It’s been 6 months without any heat touching my hair and 7 months since I’ve had my hair braided. It will be officially a year next month since I made the decision to go natural. I’m excited because it’s growing really well. Now I’m ready to do something different with it, I’ve become bored with my wash go afro. So, I need your help with suggestions on how I should have my hair styled!!!

I don't want to lock it because I love to feel my curls, but I'm not sure how I should get it done!!
Oh My excuse the shiney face LOL

The Natural Hair Journey - Detangling!!

Hey Ladies!!!

The next thing on the agenda.....Detangling your hair. Hair washing day is one of my favorite days until I have to detangle my hair. It's easier since I did my big chop and my hair is fairly short. Yet, it's still a task at best!! There are really just three things that you need when it comes to detangling. 1. a wide tooth comb 2. Conditioner and 3. Patience.

The Wide Tooth Comb
The wide tooth comb comes in a variety of sizes, colors, types, and is made out of either plastic or wood. I have that exact comb pictured above I use it everyday to manage my kinky curlies. Unlike smaller tooth combs this comb will almost glide through your hair without pulling your delicate strands out of your head.

The Conditoner
Conditioner will make your hair easy to comb when your detangling your hair and that mean less breakage and manageable hair. The conditioner provides a slip so your hair just slides through the comb.

How to detangle
I typically wash my hair in the shower. It's just easier to detangle in the shower versus hanging my head over a sink. Here are a somes steps to consider when detagling your hair...
  • For long hair part your hair in sections when you wash and condition
  • Apply a generous amount of conditioner to each section
  • Slowly detangle each conditioner soaked section with your wide tooth comb
  • Never force the comb through your hair

The Key Elements of Serving - By Nita

Hello world!! one of the things I love to do is serve the Lord and when it comes to being a servant of Christ you have to learn about servitude and what it means. Here is a post I got from a forum I frequent on this website http://www.theyuinon.com/.

It's not about you: this concept teaches a servant that when you're serving in any capacity, you should not consider yourself or you own needs. This is the time to consider the needs of others and place yours on the back burner. There is plenty of time to deal with your needs and issues (in private counsel), just not when you're serving. This concept also teaches that servants aren't seeking any gratification or praise in return of their serving.

Presentation: this concept teaches a servant that presentation is everything!!! You want to ensure that servants are aware that they are not serving the person (i.e. Bishop, Pastor, etc…) they are serving as unto the Lord. This goes for display tables, your personal appearance and the appearance of those assisting you.

Spirit of Excellence: this concept teaches a servant to put their whole heart into what they are doing. Making sure things are coordinated in an organized and structured fashion. Sacrifice, Sacrifice,

Sacrifice: this concept teaches a servant that you will have to totally give of yourself to serve in any capacity. This may mean 2 hours of sleep; standing in heals all day, driving long distances (with only 2 hours of sleep), and long night talks with others who are in need. This concept also teaches a servant to be totally self-less.

Being Available: this concept teaches a servant that your time is not yours. You give your time to serve the body of Christ wherever there is a need. This may mean serving in a particular area where you may not feel very confident. (i.e. being asked to lead a worship song and you don't feel like you can sing very well)

Be Sharp: This concept is simple yet complex. When planning, hosting, or serving, there is always "things" that do not go as planned. Never show looks like you don't know what's going on. Even when things are going left, do you best to re-direct them right and always attempt to fix whatever the problem is._________________Content over Appearance Substance over Appeal MINISTRY

I AM SO PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my braids down because they were too tight and I wanted to save my edges that they were pulling on. Well when I took my hair down my mom happened to be behind me and noticed I had a bald spot in the middle of my head. So I got up took a picture and now I'm ready to fight. This is some bullmess

I'm so mad I could kill somebody!!!!! This doesn't make any sense how in the hell do you braid someones hair completely out!!!!! When the girl was braiding my hair it didn't even hurt but afterwards I said ok this is too tight. I just took them because I could take it anymore and I had something to do that required my hair to be done. Now I don't know what to do!!!!!!

In this picture below you can see where the braids started to pull on my edges. I want to cry I'm so mad this makes no sense.!!!
SO now I have to wait for that to grow back before I can really get my hair styled for real. Please ladies if your briads are too tight take them out don't stand the pain!!!

Exploring my Roots

OMG I'm going NATURAL!!!!!!!!!! I just cant believe it myself

I've made the decision to grow out and manage my natural hair due to my battle with Seborrheic Dermatitis. Seborrheic Dermatitis is a condition like eczema that can affect your face, scalp and other parts of your body where hair grows by over producing oil causing your scalp to flake really really bad. Some of my dandruff was so bad that if I scratched it my scalp would bleed. I was so tired of getting perms and my scalp ending up with sores all over, I finally said enough is enough. If you would like to know more about Seborrheic Dermatitis click this link http://www.webmd.com/video/seborrheic-dermatitis

When I tell people I'm going natural they believe I'm actually going crazy because I have very thick hair. For the most part I have a very good grade of hair it's just extremely thick. I love my thick hair because when I get it done it's always full and beautiful, some people even ask if my hair was a wig. I'm not sure what my family is going to think , but I'm sure they will have their objections as usual.

My scalp issues are not the only reason I chose to journey down this road; it also has to do with my walk with Christ. I'm striving to become more of a Godly Woman and walk where ever he guides me. You may ask well, what does going natural have to do with Christ. Well, as Christians we want to become more like Christ, we want to learn to put all our trust in him, believe that he'll provided all of our wants and needs, and live our lives according to his Word and Will. Going natural for me is also saying Lord I'll learn to work with what you gave me.

In our lives we modify things to make things easier for us or to try to make things "better" than what it was. When we modify things or alter the natural state from what it was given to us the outcome can be good or bad.
  • Genesis 1:27 says ....God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

So, when God created me and my so called Nappy hair I was created in the likeness of him and their is nothing more perfect or more beautiful than that.

As black people we are have been trained to believe that our grade of hair is bad hair and is not pretty or acceptable to wear. So, we put chemicals in our hair that makes it weak and causes it to break so that our hair be straight and pretty. When, all along our hair was pretty from the beginning. It saddens me to see little girls at the age of 3 and up with permed hair; we don't know how to care for our own hair any more and it's ridiculous.
So, today I take my part in journey back to the Root of it all
