My interview with Lisa McClendon...The Natural Journey Series Part 1

Hey ladies this is surprise# 1 I was granted an interview with Gospel singer Lisa McClendon!!! let me tell you!! It was such a blessing to know that someone as busy as Lisa McClendon took the time to do and interview with me. I'm not even excited about her celebrity I'm excited about her ministry. This interview is the begining of many things that I will be doing on a series I call "The Natural Hair Journey" The interview is below Stay tuned for more.....

******************************************

Hi Lisa first and foremost I want to thank you for taking the time to talk too little ole me and playing a part in the natural hair journey interview. Growing up most black women had their hair braided, curled, pressed or hot combed as children. When we become pre-teens or teenagers, our parents decided to perm our hair. Has your hair always been natural or was it a decision you made later in life? If going natural was your decision please explain why?

Lisa: I have not always been natural. I decided to go natural in 2007 and I LOVE IT!! One day, after wearing weaves for some time, I realized that I'd lost almost all the hair in the top of my head. I shared it with my girlfriends (who happened to have been natural for years) one night while we were hanging out. They challenged me to go natural after we all realized I had lost my identity in my looks. I was terrified of going natural at first. But after I was convinced it was the best thing for my hair, I realized that I was even more beautiful naturally.

MoZaic: Going natural can be a test of your faith and patience. While I was transitioning I wanted to go back to getting perms because it was so hard to transition, but the Lord spoke to me saying “can you work with what I’ve given you?” Who would have known growing my perm out would be spiritual. So, because my faith was tested it motivated me to continue my journey. What advice would you give other women who are struggling with transitioning or those who are thinking of transitioning but scared to go through with it?

Lisa: It is definitely a spiritual journey. Being natural challenges you to know who you are. You no longer have anything to hide behind. You are challenged to see the real beauty beneath the "enhancements." My advice would be to get ready to be challenged from the inside as well as from the outside. You will want to go back to your comfort zone but honestly it is the best thing for our hair as women of color. Chemically treated hair can lead to so many health risk and it is just not worth it.

MoZaic: One of the many road blocks people face while going natural or thinking of going natural is people who have negative thoughts and opinions about natural hair. As a singer you’re apart of an industry where your looks matter and the genre of music you sing people usually expect you to wear a two piece skirt suit with shoes, a lap napkin, a purse, and big hat to match. As a person with natural hair not just a gospel artist with natural hair, what challenges have you faced, how do you manage the comments and unsolicited suggestions from other people?

Lisa: I actually have not had any negative feedback. Most comments I get are women who want to go natural too, who either one don't have the guts just yet or who make the decision to do it after seeing me step out and do it. I don't let the industry box me in to sound or looks. I am who I am, just how God made me, natural.

MoZaic: On almost every natural hair blog or forum on the internet, the biggest topics are about hair products. What type of hair products do you use? Are you cautious about certain ingredients in products like petroleum, mineral oil, & parabens?

Lisa: I am definitely cautious of mineral oil. I stay clear of that when at all possible. I do use bee's wax, tea tree oil, and lavendar oil in my hair. The hair line that I stick to is Eden Bodyworks. I love their hair care line.

MoZaic: My last question for you is not about hair. Like me there are a lot of people who have been anticipating your new release “Reality”. Please tell us about the project and what you hope for people to experience when they are listening to it.

Lisa: "Reality" will release on April 28th. This is my best album yet, hands down. You expect the sound and lyrical content of realness. I address some real issues on this album. The album starts off with "Who I am", as song that allows me to reintroduce myself with the boldness and confidence that God gave me. The single of the album, "Pause" is what I call the busy woman's anthem. Often we are too busy to be still and get overwhelmed and burnt out. Pause reminds us to take the opportunity to create your own pause moment and get away from it all.

Peace and Pause

My Prayer for this blog.....

Lord I thank you for the opportunity to fellowship through the means of the Internet, to reach those beyond the space I call my home, and to sow seeds of encouragement to those on their natural hair journey. Help them make the right decisions for their lives according to your will. Lord, let the views and opinions I share on this blog give you all the glory and honor you deserve and let everyone who stops to browse here or read this blog leave with a change in their life for the good and bless them beyond their expectation. In the name of Jesus I pray.....Amen

He'll do it again

It's a little after 12am and I was just sitting here thinking about what else I could post about that had something to do with hair and my mind can't seem to stray away from a TON3X song that is stuck in my head from his new album UnSpoken. Track 8 titled Again is just simply the bomb and it basically says If he (meaning God) did something before he'll do it again. If he ever blessed you before he'll do it agian.

This songs sticks with me because I remember when I thought I was on the ledge of a mountain called Depression and I didn't think I had other options than the way I was going, but GLORY be to God because he gave me another chance Again!!

I don't know who this is for, whom ever may read this, but please know that it may seem like it's over, but remember if he got you out before he'll do it again, if he's ever led you from a dark place, he'll do it again and again. Just look to the hills from where all our help comes from, Jesus will make a way for you, he's already made a way, and guess what he is the only way.

He'll make your test your testimony so be strong and don't give up on him because he wont give up on you. And remember HE'LL DO IT AGAIN

Nappturally Yours,

The Reason Why I haven't Posted anything

Hey ladies sorry for the gap in post I had a miniature visitor who took up all of my time. My niece Keyah was in town and she was on a mission to see Sponge Bob and Dora!!!! So we got up in the early morning on this past Saturday scooped up my God sis Shayla and went to find Sponge Bob and Dora at the Columbus Auto Show.

Here is Keyah waiting so not patiently to see Dora next to a hot rod

I wished I had a video camera with me when my niece saw Dora walking to the stage it was so funny. She put her left hand on her forehead and waved with her right hand in a very dramatic voice Oh Dora Oh Dora I see Dora I wanna go with Dora!!!!! Approximately 8 minutes later we were able to finally see Dora and Boots!!!
After the little Mousey got to see Dora we had to get back in line for Sponge Bob to come out, who is her absolute favorite character!!!! She just couldn't wait she tried to cut in front of everybody and he hadn't even come out yet. Oh but when he did she was ready to make a break for the stage!!!

Even Shayla decided to get a picture with ole Sponge Bob
After we saw the good ole Dora and Spongey we decided to go Showroom floor Pimpin!!

Natural Hair Product Company Spotlight

Today I wanted to bring some attention one of my favorite hair products. Komaza Care (Encourage Growth). I stumbled across this company while I was researching going natural and transitioning. After looking at the website I decided to purchase a product. The first thing I bought was the Shea butter hair lotion which I absolutely love!! The Shea Butter Hair Lotion has no nasty chemicals like petroleum or mineral oil which can clog your pores. It’s actually a leave in conditioner and leaves your hair soft and smelling great! Also, is great when detangling the hair.

The next product I used was the Hair Nourishment Oil; I use to suffer from bad dandruff due to perms. After, using the Hair Nourishment Oil I noticed a big difference in my scalp condition and the growth of my hair. It has a strong Sulfur smell, but it’s not as bad as sulfur 8. I use this oil almost everyday and I’m very sad when I run out LOL!! It’s only because I love it so much it is the only oil I that has helped me with seborrheic dermatitis.

The products are a little pricy but they are no more expensive that Carols Daughter and more affordable than Mrs. Jessies products. I would recommend anyone to try the products and see what they like. Their customer service is excellent and they ship in a timely manner. So, for you product junkies out their here is something else for you to try!!

Sorry I don’t have any pics of the products I ran out the other day and my mother who has the need to clean everything in my house threw the bottles away. I need to order MORE this weekend!!!!

Hydration.....DRINK YOUR WATER

Hey ladies,

We've all heard that it's important to stay hydrated, drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Yet; for some it's hard to drink all of that water especially when you want to drink pepsi, mountain dew, or what ever your vise may be. I myself love water I could drink it all day, I even keep a 3 bottles by my bed at night in case I get thirsty. Since, I'm such a water enthusiast I hate flavored water!! It's so nasty I don't see how anyone can drink that crap!! I hate flavored water more than I hate srping water, just give me distilled, reverse osmosis, purified good ole water.

Water is good for your skin and hair. It regulates your body tempature, helps flush toxins out of your body, your body is mostly made up of water and we can't live without it.

Well, I have a confession to make.... I have found this water that I can't stop drinking and I'm so addicted I go to Sams Club to and buy a entire case for about $17.00.

Folks I'm in love with Vitamin Water XXX and Formula 50!!!! I drink about 4 of these a day which is 10 servings of water everyday!!! I have never like flavored water ever and this is a first for me and I wont turn back.

So, if you're looking for a way to get your water in but don't care for water. Try Vitamin water and look for the XXX flavor it's the best!!

Click the link Vitamin Water and Check the out their web site it's pretty cool and it tells you about the products they make including Smart Water which is also very good.

Give it a try and let me know what you think

Hey I'm Back!!!!

Hey Ladies I missed ya so much!!!! To go without your computer for a whole week cold turkey is not good!!!! I had the shakes and jitters all week I am considering rehab LOL NOT!!!

Well, lets get down to business!!!!!!!!!!

As I said before I have been very busy with church and our State Womens department. Last Saturday the State Womens Dept had a very successful Womens luncheon. We were only expecting 250 people and we packed the house with about 800 people. So, I worked myself almost to death and I didn't get a chance to take any pictures. I have one picture of me though after all the people had left for the day.

I found some shea butter at different African Market than I usually go to and I got an AWESOME DEAL!!! I bought 1lb of shea butter for 4.99(OMG I still can't believe it). It is unrefined white butter and it has a great texture, goes on smooth, and that unrefined yuck smell!! LOL So I will be whipping this up in to something soon!!

I found that white shea butter has a stronger smell than the yellow because of how long it's cooked and how each countries process is different. My friend from Ghana brought me butter from Ghana and Togo and they smell completely different

I believe it's time for me to do a giveaway so be on the lookout for more details!!!!
