Transition - A Documentary

I found a video today on Madame Noire from the New York Times about a documentary on transitioning to natural hair. I love how the narrator & creator Zina Saro-Wiwa tells briefly how her transition changed her whole life.

I tell people all the time how going natural affected every part of my life from head to toe and from outside to inside. Being Natural is so much more than a hairstyle its a lifetsyle, its who we are.

Enjoy the video

Fairy Knots I hate em!

Oh How I HATE Fairy Knots!!! You know those little bitty knots in your hair that you feel when doing your natural hair. Well, here's a blog post I read yesterday about how to combat those single strand knots in our hair

So, I've been a a mini product haul to replenish some oldies but goodies and try some new items.

So I bought some Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream and I like it so far I'm going to attempt a twist for the 19th million time and hopefully this will help my curls stay around for days instead of hours lol

The next thing I bought was a product that I absolutely love!! Dabur Vatika oil. I purposely drive to the other side of town to the Indian Grocer just for this one product! If you haven't tried it this is a must have!

The ingredients include hair:
Coconut Oil, Amla extract, Henna extract, Lemon oil, Brahmi extract, Rosemary oil, & Neem extract.

All the ingredients promote hair growth, strengthening the hair and preventing hair loss

I'll post the rest of my product haul later try Vatika Oil whenever you can you'll never know how you lived without it!

Bino & Fino

I was browsing the internet and I found a African Childrens cartoon called Bino & Fino! I don't know how I found this, but I'm glad I did!! This is a very good cartoon for children of african descent from ages 3 - 6.  I love how the little girl has little afro puffs check it out and share with your children, nieces or nephews.

My 1st Handmade Satin Hair Bonnett

So, today with the help of my Aunt Linda and my Bff Watesa we made 1 XXL hair bonnet. I wanted it to be big so when I have braids or rock my afro I will have a bonnet that will accommodate my hair. I went to Joann fabrics and found some very cute gray & purple polka dot fabric that was on sale for $4.99/yrd.

So, after a little bit of laughing and talking trying to figure this out......Here is the finished product and I'm very happy with it! I now know what I need to do to make it and perfect it. Satin bonnets are an essential part of any persons hair care regimen to protect your hair and maintain moisture.

Here is moi modeling my bonnet aka pastry chef hat lol The only thing I want to change about its is the tightness of the band which I will adjust another day. Let me know what you guys think and I can't wait to make another one!!

Hey Natural Diva's,

So I received an awesome press release from one of my awesome #NaturalHair followers the lovely @mslawanda about  National Natural Hair Meetup Day! I had never heard of this until I got her email and I'm very excited about the event. I saw that there is only 1 event listed for Columbus, OH but I haven't heard about it at all so I'm on a mission to find this meetup to see how we can maybe collaborate to get the word out even more.

National Natural Hair Meetup Day is an one day event where women across the country can meet and share the joys and trials of being natural. If you haven't heard of an event in your city please check out the website at  NNHMD.com to find a meetup event near you!

Viola Davis is Beautiful

I so love this video I found!!! Its an open letter to Wendy Williams reflecting on her comments about #NaturalHair
#NaturalHair is Beautful!!! and if you don't like what God created or think you have to change what he made perfect then something is wrong with YOU. It doesn't matter if you're relaxed or natural God made everything about us PERFECT, but the problem is those who feel #NaturalHair is dirty or nasty looking that need to check themselves because they are degrading themselves #IJS

Sorry

I've been on a hiatus working on Shea Addiktion Bath & Body will be doing a product launch very soon yay!! In the meantime and in between time I've also been working on a project that focuses solely on me called #ProjectTotalMe this is the beginning of a new change in my life that is centered around my Total Health from physical, mental, spiritual, & financial health.

Today is my 3rd day of this journey and I'm so excited about it. So, look forward to daily updates from this day forward on hair and health

Here's to my highest health

Why the TSA maybe searching your hair

So, I saw this video on FaceBook and it made me wonder about why people have been getting their hair searched when going through TSA. This video confirms why they are looking through our hair. Yes, it is intrusive, but it is also for our safety. I will be traveling overseas in 2012 and I'm already mentally preparing myself for having my hair searched.....

I feel so bad for the girl in this video because she probably was forced to do this! She looks scared and confused. I would be crying and angry with those men all in my hair like that.

Barbie has a fro!!

I was on theroot.com today one of the few African American websites I browse because of its intelligent content versus other black media outlets that seem to report more about entertainment than real news. Ok rant over that's for another post, but I saw this post about #NaturalHair Barbies!!!

Now growing up I hated Barbie my Aunt Tee would buy them for me as a kid and I would barely look at them. So, now that I've seen this Barbie I actually want to buy one lol! Please check out this post its something kind of awesome! http://www.theroot.com/buzz/barbie-goes-natural-christmas

Barbie Goes Natural for Christmas

Me vs Twist - The Saga of my life

So I twisted my hair and guess what when I took them down my hair went right back to an Afro LOL me & twist don't get along :0( I've tried a lot of different things to get my hair to do the cute twistout look but my hair wants to be a fro lol.

One product that I love for twist and I've blogged about before is Shea Moisture's Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie.
This product can be found in your local Target or Walgreens store, its inexpensive and it really defines your curls when you're twisting it. Yet, my hair still poofs up after its been twisted, maybe one day my hair with work with me and not against me lol

Your Man Does't Like #NaturalHair

So, your man doesn't like your #NaturalHair well watch this video and let this man give you suggestions on how to help your man explain your #NaturalHair Journey

My Crochet Tam

So I called my self crocheting a hat for the first time and it came out really big. I love the hat anyway because I made it. If you are wearing hats this Winter remember to either sew a satin liner in the hat or wear a satin bonnet under your hat.

All Wrapped Up

Its time for fall and winter hair care!! Aren't you excited I know that I am!. I love fall and winter fashion but I dont like winter hair care so much lol!

So, I was thinking what can I do to to start off the fall season before I choose a protective style I want to wear this winter. Well, I decided on a head wrap. Since I'm a loose natural I have to twist put it pony tails or braid my hair before bed because my afro is so much longer and before I put on a head wrap I make sure my hair is in some type of protective style.

You can use whatever piece of fabric or old stretchy skirt you have in your closet. I chose a piece of fabric I bought to make a wrap skirt with. Its roughly about 5 yards and I love the pattern. Now keep in mind Im not a head wrap guru so I don't know how to do the typical Erykah baduish African Queen wrap, but I just do whatever looks good on me.

What are your favorite ways to wrap your hair?
